A Diamond is the hardest natural substance known to man. Every diamond is unique with its own individual beauty, a rarity that makes them precious and desirable.
The quality of a diamond is measurable by certification and is an accurate basis for valuation. There are many different laboratories around the world, GIA, HRD, IGI, EGL are the most recognised and are always our first choice.

The four basic features that guide certification are easy to remember. They are Cut, Colour, Clarity and Carat, known in the trade as the 4 C’s.

Cut is the only 4c that isn’t dictated by nature. The best cuts generally have the most facets to allow maximum light reflection creating more brilliance and sparkle. Diamonds are cut into many shapes, the most popular of which are round brilliant, princess, heart, marquise, pear, emerald and oval.

Diamonds are found in a range of natural colours from totally colourless (rare and highly sought after) to light yellow with various colour shadings between. Diamonds also occur in tinted colours such as pink, blue and green which again are extremely rare.

Most diamonds contain tiny inclusions which makes each diamond unique. These inclusions are generally small pieces of other minerals or carbon that haven’t fully crystallised. Inclusions do not generally effect the diamonds beauty nor endanger its durability but the smaller they are the more the diamond will sparkle and the more valuable it will be.

A diamond is measured in carat weight, each carat is divided into increments of 100 points. The carat weight is guaranteed by the individual certificate of authenticity.
